Rob Lowe is known for acting in such works as “THE WEST WING,” THE OUTSIDERS, ST. ELMO’S FIRE and “PARKS AND RECREATION,” but did you know that he is also a modern master of psychological terror? Okay, well that’s not exactly true, but that’s how the folks at Butterfinger are jokingly marketing him.

Lowe is going behind the camera to direct a horror/comedy short entitled BUTTERFINGER THE 13TH to promote the candy. A teaser trailer for the piece is below. The full 25-minute short is set to debut online on Friday, October 13th.

BUTTERFINGER THE 13TH will take its audience on a perilous journey with the film’s hero, whose paranoia leads him to believe that someone wants to lay a finger… in more ways than one.

Here’s what Lowe had to say about the project: “Butterfinger’s history with irreverent comedy drew me to this really unique, fun project. As an artist, I get to explore the world of horror movie-making with a comedic twist. It’s going to be a psychological thriller that will leave you laughing.” He adds, “This film will be a great opportunity for me to entertain and interact with fans in a uniquely humorous way. Personally, I’m just glad Butterfinger finally will help me pay back my folks for all the times when, as a kid, I let my favorite candy get stuck in my teeth and ruin God-knows-how-many sets of braces.”

This is a strange marketing strategy if you ask me, but the it looks and sounds pretty cool. What do you think?
