SCREAM screenwriter Kevin Williamson guided the CBS All Access anthology Tell Me a Story through a first season that blended concepts from the fairy tales The Three Little Pigs, Red Riding Hood, and Hansel and Gretel into a modern day psychological thriller. For the second season, Williamson is drawing inspiration from the stories of Beauty and the Beast, Sleeping Beauty, and Cinderella – and one of the first season's little pigs is coming along for the ride.
Actor Paul Wesley, who played drug dealer / thief Eddie in the first season of Tell Me a Story, is returning for season 2 to play a different character. This time around Wesley will be
Tucker, a struggling novelist who spends his sleepless nights toiling away in a secluded cabin in the woods and his days trying to prove he's good enough for his beautiful fiancee as a dark secret threatens to destroy his world.
Wesley is the first cast member to be announced for the new season, so it's not yet clear if any of his season 1 co-stars will also be taking on new roles in season 2.
CBS All Access hasn't announced a premiere date for the new season, but it is known that they're aiming to have it ready to go by the end of the year.
Executive produced by Williamson, Liz Friedlander, Aaron Kaplan, and Dana Honor, Tell Me a Story was inspired by the Spanish television series Cuéntame un cuento, which also turned fairy tales into modern thrillers. For example, that show's take on Snow White made the evil queen a washed-up model and replaced the seven dwarves with seven diamond thieves. The "Beast" from its version of Beauty and the Beast was a disfigured actor. We'll see if Tell Me a Story season 2 takes the same approach to the Beast. I'm feeling disappointed that Snow White wasn't mentioned as source material for season 2, because "Snow White and the Seven Diamond Thieves" sounds like a winning idea to me.
The Mexican series Érase Una Vez was also inspired by Cuéntame un cuento.
