The Addams Family may be returning to live-action courtesy of Tim Burton!

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

So Deadline reports that none-other-than Tim Burton himself wants to executive produce and possibly direct all episodes of a new live-action THE ADDAMS FAMILY series, which is rumoed to "be set in present times and be from the perspective of Wednesday Addams and what the world would look like to her in 2020."

The show will also be written, showrun, and co-executive produced by SMALLVILLE creators Alfred Gough and Miles Millar. It is currently not set up at any network or streaming platforms at the moment, though Netflix is reportedly at the top of the list of buyers. We'll keep you updated!

Now, 14-year old Damion would be ecstatic at this news, as I loved THE ADDAMS FAMILY and Tim Burton was my favorite director then, which meant this would've been a match made in Hell for me (which is this context is a good thing!) But now…well…I don't know if present-day Burton's got it in him anymore, frankly. And while it seems he's made perfect for the material – what with being the twee Goth king and all – I honestly thought the same thing about CHARLIE AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY and ALICE IN WONDERLAND, and look how those turned out. And, furthermore, I'd argue Barry Sonnenfeld out-Burtoned Burton on the original 90's films anyway. Not saying this can't be good, or that Burton can't pull it off necessarily – anything's possible, of course – just that I'm currently skeptical until proven otherwise.

Meanwhile, the most recent incarnation of the kooky family – the hit CG animated film of the same name from last year – will be getting a sequel released October 8th, 2021.

So what do you guys think? Fans of THE ADDAMS FAMILY? If so, excited for a Tim Burton-directed series? Either way, sound off below!
