The Afterparty: Sam Richardson and Zoë Chao will return for season 2

Apple TV+ renewed their murder mystery comedy The Afterparty for a second season last month and it seems that a few familiar faces will be returning. Sam Richardson and Zoë Chao have signed on to reprise their respective roles as Aniq and Zoe for The Afterparty season 2.

The first season of The Afterparty starred Tiffany Haddish as Detective Danner, who attempts to unravel a murder mystery at a high-school reunion afterparty that ended with the death of pop star/actor Xavier (Dave Franco). Each episode featured a retelling of the same night told through a different character’s perspective, each with its own unique visual format and film genre to match the personality of the one telling the story. The Afterparty season 2 will revolve around a murder at a wedding this time around, with Tiffany Haddish also returning as Detective Danner. Other new additions to the cast include Elizabeth Perkins (Sharp Objects), Zach Woods (Silicon Valley) Paul Walter Hauser (Black Bird), Poppy Liu (Hacks), Anna Konkle (PEN15), Jack Whitehall (Jungle Cruise), and Vivian Wu (Away).

The Afterparty was created by Christopher Miller, who also served as showrunner, writer, and director of the first season. Season 2 of The Afterparty will be co-showrun by Miller and Anthony King (Search Party), with both also serving as executive producers. Miller alluded to a few actors returning for the new season while speaking with Deadline earlier this month. “Tiffany is going to be back to solve another mystery, and there will be a few of the returning actors coming back,” Miller said. “And we got a very exciting new group of suspects.” You can check out a review of The Afterparty from our own Alex Maidy right here.
