The Afterparty renewed for season 2 by Apple

The Afterparty, renewed, season 2

Prepare yourself for the after-afterparty. Apple TV’s hit murder-mystery comedy The Afterparty will conclude this Friday but the studio is clearly ready for more as they have renewed the series for a second season.

The Afterparty stars Tiffany Haddish as Detective Danner, who attempts to unravel a murder mystery at a high-school reunion afterparty that ended with the death of Xaxier (Dave Franco), a popstar/actor. Each episode features a retelling of the same night told through a different character’s perspective, each with its own unique visual format and film genre to match the personality of the one telling the story. In addition to Tiffany Haddish and Dave Frano, the first season of The Afterparty also stared Sam Richardson, Zoë Chao, Ben Schwartz, Ike Barinholtz, Ilana Glazer, and Jamie Demetriou. It’s expected that Haddish will return as Detective Danner, who will likely be tasked with a new mystery to solve. Christopher Miller and Phil Lord serve as the executive producers of The Afterparty, with Miller also serving as showrunner, writer, and director of the series.

Our own Alex Maidy is certainly a fan of The Afterparty and will likely be thrilled to hear that it’s been renewed. Maidy called it “the most inventive approaches to storytelling in quite some time” in his review of the series. “I had a blast watching this show and laughed through every episode, especially the animated entry and the high school flashback episode that pays homage to everything from Can’t Hardly Wait to American Pie and more,” Maidy wrote. “Christopher Miller has created a truly hilarious murder mystery, something I never expected to write. This is a great show that I expect people to be buzzing about over the weeks to come.” You can check out the rest of his review right here, and don’t forget, the season finale will debut on Apple TV+ on March 4th.
