The Amazons from Wonder Woman might show up again in Justice League!

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

One of the many highlights of WONDER WOMAN was the prologue in Themyscira, and seeing all the badass Amazon warriors training and kicking ass. This includes Wonder Woman’s mother, Queen Hippolyta (played by Connie Nielsen) and her sister –
and the one who actually trains Diana as a warrior – General Antiope (played by Robin Wright).

Anyway, in an interview with LA Times, Nielsen and Penn let out that we’ll be seeing their Amazon characters again in the upcoming JUSTICE LEAGUE film (barring massive changes, as there seem to be reports of massive reshoots recently). Here’s the snippet:

The film only briefly touches on the relationship between Queen Hippolyta and Diana. Are we going to see more of that in the future?

Gadot: Of course; the mother and daughter relationship is always a beautiful but complex relationship. I think that there’s a lot more to explore.

Nielsen: And [Wright and I] got to do more in “Justice League” as well. As sisters as well. Kind of badass as well. We can’t say much, but …

Wright: And more of the story, you get some of the history.

It seems likely that they’ll be part of some prologue, as the story of JUSTICE LEAGUE is reportedly centered on the three “Mother Boxes”, one of which is hidden on Themyscira (the other two in Atlantis and as the source of Cyborg’s power). In fact, you can see Amazons fighting off Darkseid’s Parademons in the JUSTICE LEAGUE trailer – though there’s no telling if that’s a prologue of how the Mother Boxes landed on Themyscira back in ancient times, or if it’s set in modern times and is showing how Darkseid’s forces (led by Ciaran Hinds‘ Steppenwolf) takes it from them. I guess we’ll see when the film comes out. I’m just glad we’ll be seeing more badass Amazonian action! Bring it on!

Meanwhile, you can see for yourself when JUSTICE LEAGUE flies into theaters November 17th.
