Genre regular Kristina Klebe has signed on to star in the psychological horror film The Bayou, and Deadline reports that her co-stars in the film will include Liz Lafontant (The Oval), Brandon Lessard (Robert the Bruce), Baylee Toney (The Redeemer), and Devante Winfrey (Designed for Death). Coming to us from The Redeemer writer/director Myles Clohessy (The Redeemer in question is the Brandon Routh Western, not the 1978 horror film), The Bayou is said to be inspired by true events. The story centers on

the young group led by Mariah (Lafontant) and her husband Charles (Lessard), who decide to tag along on a couples backpacking retreat down south to stay at a number of plantations, which have now turned their former slave cottages into Airbnb properties, offering a chance for descendants of former slaves to come back with the intent to reconnect and reclaim their ancestors’ past. But what starts out as an inspiring escape into the past, and a much-needed distraction from a crumbling relationship, quickly spirals out of control when Mariah, Charles and their friends start to encounter sinister forces deep in the remote Louisiana bayou.

Clohessy is producing The Bayou with Antony Ware and Ramsey Heitmann, through their Barefoot Kid Productions banner. Mike Walsh of Philly Born Films and Rob Simmons of Jars Productions are also producing. Amadeus Productions, Allyn Smith, and Big Head Productions serve as executive producers.

The IMDb page for this project lists the title as The Bog, and credits Ware as co-writer. So we’ll have to wait and see whether this ends up being released as The Bayou or The Bog.

Horror fans may have previously seen Klebe in Rob Zombie’s Halloween, Zone of the Dead, Chillerama, Proxy, Killer Mermaid, Tales of Halloween, Dementia, Alleluia! The Devil’s Carnival, The Last Heist, Don’t Kill It, Extremity, Slay Belles, the 2019 Hellboy, Sinister Seduction, I Am Fear, Lucky, Two Witches, and/or Not Alone. She has also done voice work on Friday the 13th: The Game, Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Season 8 Motion Comic, and the upcoming Texas Chainsaw Massacre video game.
