Well this is disappointing. Perhaps not unexpected, but disappointing nonetheless. Director Juan Carlos Fresnadillo has completely drifted away from the BIOSHOCK adaptation that has had difficulty from day one securing the desired budget and creative control that a project like this would need. “To be honest, by now, I’m completely out of that, and developing other stuff,” Fresnadillo said while doing press for his new movie INTRUDERS. “Right now it’s on hold. The studio and the videogame company, they have to reach some kind of agreement about the budget and the rating.”
Fresnadillo has been fighting for a long while, and has at last given up the fight in favor of other potential projects like the HIGHLANDER reboot. Though it doesn’t seem like he’s fully committed to that just yet either… “I’m developing the possibility of making ‘Highlander,'” he said. “I find the concept very interesting, immortality as a curse. We’re using the materials of the universe, but this is some kid of reboot, since the story could use a new approach… Everything comes from the universe of the original film. There will be no aliens!”
Oh, and as for what happened with that reboot of THE CROW that Fresnadillo was once attached to which was set to star Bradley Cooper? “We were so close… I really love him as an actor and a person. But it was an agenda thing. It didn’t match my agenda or [scheduling] so I decided to jump out.”
