The Black Cauldron reportedly the next Disney live-action remake!

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

Like the headline says, THE BLACK CAULDRON is rumored to be the next Disney live-action remake (emphasis on "rumored"). Now, if you haven't heard of THE BLACK CAULDRON, it's kind of not surprising. The 1985 animated fantasy film was Disney's first to be rated PG (due to some, admittedly, disturbing images), and was the most expensive animated film in history at the time (costing upwards of $40 million, which is over $100 million today, if you count for inflation). It also flopped hard, making less than half its budget back, and not even getting a proper home release until 1998. For a while, Disney tried to bury their failure (and never really attempted anything that violent or disturbing since).

But, personally, I think this exactly the type of animated film Disney should be remaking in live-action, if they are indeed going to stubbornly continue down that path (which, judging how well these remakes do at the box-office, doesn't look like any time soon). This also includes other duds that might've had interesting ideas, like ATLANTIS: THE LOST EMPIRE, and TREASURE PLANET. Why fix something that isn't broken *cough*LIONKING*cough*, when you actually have a chance to improve it?

Anyway, here's the official synopsis:

Loosely based on the first two books in Lloyd Alexander’s The Chronicles of Prydain, it centers on the evil Horned King who hopes to secure an ancient magical cauldron that will aid him in his desire to conquer the world. He is opposed by a young pig keeper named Taran, the young princess Eilonwy, the bard Fflewddur Fflam, and a wild creature named Gurgi who seek to destroy the cauldron.

So what do you guys think? Any fans of this more cult animated film? If so, how do you feel about a live-action remake? Either way, sound off below!
