One horror movie trope that will never get old is the sound of a group of children singing in harmony. Not sure what it is about the quiet melody of a kids song that makes people’s skin crawl, but from THE BIRDS to NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET and countless other flicks, it’s an old standby that’s as dependable as the jump-scare.
The trailer for THE CHILDREN knows this and adds the wrinkle of making the song a Christmas tune, which amps up the eerie factor even more. Scary children are popular now, with this, CHILDREN OF THE CORN, and the remake of WHO CAN KILL A CHILD all in the pipeline. This one is about what happens when a relaxing Christmas vacation turns into a terrifying fight for survival as the children begin to turn on their parents.
THE CHILDREN comes from screenwriter Paul Andrew WIlliams (THE COTTAGE) and director Tom Shankland (WAZ), and stars Rachel Shelley (pictured below), Stephen Campbell Moore, and Jeremy Sheffield. Hit up the Official Site for the trailer and some creepy stills.
Now how long before we hear about VILLAGE OF THE DAMNED getting remade? Again…
