The Conjuring 3 gets September 2020 release date

While it's an appearance by an ANNABELLE character that ties this month's THE CURSE OF LA LLORONA into the Conjuring Universe, the upcoming ANNABELLE COMES HOME will be taking place in the home of THE CONJURING and THE CONJURING 2 paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren, with Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga reprising those roles in the spin-off. The Warrens are expected to have a small part in ANNABELLE COMES HOME, then they'll be taking the spotlight again in the next Conjuring Universe movie after that – THE CONJURING 3.

We've known that THE CONJURING 3 is set to begin filming in June, and now the film's release date has been revealed during the Warner Bros. presentation at CinemaCon. THE CONJURING 3 is scheduled to reach theatres on September 11, 2020.

With this date, Warner Bros. is clearly looking to replicate the success they had when they released IT on September 8, 2017 (that movie went on to earn over $700 million at the global box office) and the Conjuring Universe movie THE NUN on September 7, 2018 (that one made over $365 million). This year they'll be releasing IT: CHAPTER TWO on September 6th.

Details on THE CONJURING 3's plot have not been revealed, but there has been a lot of speculation that it could be based on the story of "The Southend Werewolf", a case the real-life Ed and Lorraine Warren dealt with in the 1980s. The Warrens wrote a book called Werewolf: A True Story of Demonic Possession about that case – you can pick up a copy HERE.

THE CONJURING and THE CONJURING 2 director James Wan will remain on board THE CONJURING 3 as a producer, since he produces all of the Conjuring Universe movies, but this time is handing the directorial duties over to THE CURSE OF LA LLORONA director Michael Chaves.

While we wait for THE CONJURING 3, THE CURSE OF LA LLORONA will be released on April 19, 2019 and ANNABELLE COMES HOME will be released on June 28, 2019.
