The Conjuring 3 may be moving from September release to 2021

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

Attempts to re-open certain places in the United States during the continuing COVID-19 pandemic have not been going very well, so it's still not clear when theatre chains can get up and running like they used to be. Movies that had been scheduled for July releases, like TENET, recently moved to August, and Deadline hears that the studios and theatre chains will be reassessing the public health situation after July 4th. As they say, "it would not come as a shocker if the current August release schedule slides into September."

One film that has been sitting on a September release date since last year is Warner Bros. / New Line Cinema's THE CONJURING: THE DEVIL MADE ME DO IT, the third film in the CONJURING franchise and the eighth installment in the Conjuring Universe series. Its release date is September 11th – but Deadline hears that New Line is on the edge of pushing it back to sometime in 2021. Warner Bros. would not confirm whether or not they are thinking of delaying the film.

One source in movie marketing told the site that all upcoming release dates "are as firm as Jell-O."

THE CONJURING: THE DEVIL MADE ME DO IT is produced by Peter Safran and James Wan, who directed the previous two CONJURING movies. Wan also crafted the story with David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick, who then wrote the screenplay.

Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga reprise the roles of paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren in the sequel, which tells

a chilling story of terror, murder and unknown evil that shocked even experienced real-life paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren. One of the most sensational cases from their files, it starts with a fight for the soul of a young boy, then takes them beyond anything they’d ever seen before, to mark the first time in U.S. history that a murder suspect would claim demonic possession as a defense.

Ruairi O'Connor, Sarah Catherine Hook, and Julian Hilliard are also in the cast.

Richard Brener, Dave Neustadter, Victoria Palmeri, Michael Clear, Judson Scott, and Michelle Morrissey served as executive producers.
