Get ready for more Kung Fu. A female-led reboot of the classic TV series starring David Carradine has been in development for several years, and it was announced today that The CW has given the reboot a straight-to-series order.

Starring Olivia Liang (Legacies), the Kung Fu reboot focuses on a young Chinese-American woman who experiences a quarter-life crisis which prompts her to drop out of college and go on a life-changing journey to an isolated monastery in China. "When she returns to find her hometown overrun with crime and corruption, she uses her martial arts skills and Shaolin values to protect her community and bring criminals to justice…all while searching for the assassin who killed her Shaolin mentor and is now targeting her." The series will also star Kheng Hua Tan, Shannon Dang, Jon Prasida, Eddie Liu, Gavin Stenhouse, Gwendoline Yeo, and Tzi Ma.

In addition to Kung Fu, The CW also picked up The Republic of Sarah, which deals with a high-school teacher (Stella Baker) who attempts to form her own country. "Faced with the destruction of her town at the hands of a greedy mining company, rebellious high school teacher Sarah Cooper (Baker) utilizes an obscure cartographical loophole to declare independence," reads the official logline. "Now Sarah must lead a young group of misfits as they attempt to start their own country from scratch." In addition to Baker, The Republic of Sarah also stars Nia Holloway, Luke Mitchell, Izabella Alvarez, Hope Lauren, Ian Duff, Forrest Goodluck, Landry Bender, and Megan Follows. The two shows are intended to fill to 2020-21 lineup, but given that much of Hollywood remains shut-down due to COVID-19, it's not clear when production on these shows will begin.
