The Dead Island movie is alive and looking for a director

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

It’s been almost four years since we last heard anything about a DEAD ISLAND video game adaptation, but it’s alive again. Occupant Entertainment and Deep Silver are looking to bring the role-playing survival game back into development. Great timing too, the sequel to DEAD ISLAND is expected to hit stores in spring 2015.

In the game, an infectious disease turns a resort full of people into zombies and four immune survivors have to track down supplies and find help. It went on to sell over 8 million units worldwide! In 2011Lionsgate got the rights to the game, but nothing ever came of it. The rights went back to the publisher, Deep Silver, and now they’re teaming with the indie production company Occupant (ALL THE BOYS LOVE MANDY LANE). They hope to start production in 2015.

According to Deadline, the companies are looking for a director with "an innovative take based on either the first game or its sequel, or something in between."

Occupant’s Joe Neurauter and Felipe Marino stated:

"We want to find the right filmmaker and present somewhat of an open canvas, to make something distinct and original that also appeals to and expands the core audience."

I’ve never played the game myself, but we all remember the game changing trailer I’ve put below. I don’t know if I can handle another zombie movie right now; this movie would have to be pretty innovative to get my interest.

Does anyone have a director in mind you can suggest to these guys?
