More dead folks are about to stumble across your television sets… just don’t call these folks zombies.

New television series “They Came Back” is a remake of a French film called “Les Revenants.” (Actually it started life as a film but was developed as a TV show.) It centers on a group of men and women in a small Alpine village who find themselves in a state of confusion, trying to return to their homes. What they don’t yet know is that they’ve been dead for several years, and no one is expecting them back.

The update is being penned by British writer Paul Abbot, who created “Shameless” (both the UK and US versions). His production company AbbottVision will produce the English-language adaptation for the international market. Fremantle Media Enterprises acquired the rights to the project and will handle international distribution.

The original show aired in eight one-hour installments. It’s unclear if that’s how long the new one will be.

Star of the US version of “Shameless,” Emmy Rossum
