It never really made any sense to me, but I guess studios have to retire distributing, or making DVDs once in a while, and this time Fox has decided to pull the plug on a couple of horror titles.
First on the chopping block: THE FLY/THE FLY II double feature disc will no longer be made starting June 30th. That’s not to say that you won’t be able to find them after that… but once they’re gone… they’re gone. I could give a rats ass about THE FLY II, but THE FLY is awesome… and two movies for the price of one? Can’t beat that, no matter how many special features you put on there. It’s ok though, as both films are being worked over for their individual Special Edition DVD’s.
Next to be killed off: 28 DAYS LATER. They’re stopping the make of that disc January 31st 2006 (still plenty of time to get your grubby hands on that zombie ride), but as every Blockbuster or Hollywood Video has mass copies that you can buy used of that flick, no worries there. Oh, not to mention the Special Edition they’re working on for that film too!
Moral of this story? If you’ve contemplated jumping on the double feature fest of THE FLY/THE FLY II, now is the time to act- as no word on how long those SE will be coming out. And as for 28 DAYS LATER… eh, just know that in 6 months, you can’t buy it… and shortly thereafter, you’ll be able to get more bang for your buck with the SE.
