The Exorcist TV show gets a pilot order from Fox

Remember when we reported back in 2013 that Morgan Creek was developing a TV series based on the classic horror film THE EXORCIST? The fact that we haven't heard anything about it in two and half years may have led you to believe that the project was dead, but it never died. It's just been waiting for the perfect time to emerge into the world, and Fox has decided that its time is now. The network has ordered a pilot for the series, which will be produced by 20th Century Fox TV and Morgan Creek Productions.

The script for the pilot was written by Jeremy Slater, who co-wrote THE LAZARUS EFFECT and was credited on last year's FANTASTIC FOUR. Slater will also be executive producing the show with James Robinson, David Robinson, and Barbara Wall.

Described as a "propulsive psychological thriller", this TV take on The Exorcist will tell the story of

two very different men tackling one family’s case of horrifying demonic possession and confronting the face of true evil.

I'll be taking a "wait and see" approach on this one. Depending on the character names, it sounds like the only real connection this might have to THE EXORCIST is the fact that both feature demonic possession. If it looks like it's coming together well, I'm willing to give it a chance.

At the very least, it's likely to be better than EXORCIST II: THE HERETIC.
