It seems Aaron Taylor-Johnson wants to keep his relationship with Bullet Train director David Leitch going strong. THR has reported that Aaron Taylor-Johnson is set to star alongside Ryan Gosling in The Fall Guy, the feature-film adaptation of the classic 1980s series of the same name.

The Fall Guy series was created by Glen A. Larson and ran from 1981 to 1986 on ABC. Lee Majors starred as Colt Seavers, a Hollywood stuntman who moonlit as a bounty hunter. Using his physical skills and knowledge of stunt effects, he travelled around the country, capturing fugitives and criminals. It sounds like the movie won’t be bothering with the bounty-hunting aspect of the series and will focus on the stunts. Ryan Gosling will star as a “battered and past-his-prime stuntman who finds himself back on a movie with the star he worked with long ago and who replaced him. The problem, however, is that the star is now missing.” Aaron Taylor-Johnson will be playing the movie star that Gosling is doubling for in The Fall Guy, with Emily Blunt also starring as a prosthetic make-up artist who has a romantic past with the stuntman.

David Leitch will direct The Fall Guy and also produce alongside Kelly McCormick through their 87North production banner. The script was penned by Drew Pearce, who worked with Leitch on Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw. Leitch spoke with Collider about The Fall Guy earlier this summer. “It’s about a stuntman who gets embroiled in some crazy drama outside of the movie business, and mayhem ensues,” Leitch said. “And so, there’s fun and action, and we’re trying to make a big summer movie with it. And Universal’s incredibly supportive, and Ryan’s been really collaborative on the material, and we’re starting shooting in October. And so, we’re in pre-production right now.” Aaron Taylor-Johnson will next be seen in Kraven the Hunter on October 6, 2023.

Universe Pictures has slated The Fall Guy for a March 1, 2024 release.
