The first trailer for Danny Boyle’s Yesterday sings a set of familiar tunes

From the Academy Award-winning director of SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE and the writer of LOVE ACTUALLY comes YESTERDAY, an upcoming comedic-fantasy that celebrates the music of The Beatles in a very unique way. From the pen of Richard Curtis (FOUR WEDDINGS AND A FUNERAL, ABOUT TIME) and based on a story crafted by Jack Barth (THE FABULOUS PICTURE SHOW, THE SIMPSONS), YESTERDAY is poised to be a rock-n-roll comedy about music, dreams, friendship, and the long and winding road that leads to the love of your life.

In the upcoming film, Jack Malik (Himesh Patel) is a struggling singer-songwriter in a tiny English seaside town whose dreams of fame are rapidly fading, despite the fierce devotion and support of his childhood best friend, Ellie (Lily James). Then, after a freak bus accident during a mysterious global blackout, Jack wakes up to discover that The Beatles have never existed … and he finds himself with a very complicated problem, indeed. Performing songs by the greatest band in history to a world that has never heard them, and with a little help from his steel-hearted American agent, Debra (Kate McKinnon), Jack’s fame explodes. But as his star rises, he risks losing Ellie — the one person who always believed in him. With the door between his old life and his new closing, Jack will need to get back to where he once belonged and prove that all you need is love.

Featuring brand-new versions of The Beatles' most treasured hits, YESTERDAY is produced by Working Title’s Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner, as well as Matthew James Wilkinson and Bernie Bellew. Curtis and Boyle will also produce the feature that has Nick Angel and Lee Brazier secured as executive producers.

Set to bring Jack's story of fame, fortune, and fraud to life on the big screen are Himesh Patel (EASTENDERS, THE SERONAUTS), Lily James (CINDERELLA, BABY DRIVER), Saturday Night Live alumna Kate McKinnon (THE SPY WHO DUMPED ME, GHOSTBUSTERS), musical artist Ed Sheeran, and Ana de Armas (BLADE RUNNER 2049, WAR DOGS), among others.

Danny Boyle, who exited his role as director of the highly-anticipated BOND 25 and was replaced by MANIAC helmer Cary Joji Fukunaga, will direct.

YESTERDAY, which looks to offer a heart-warming tale of love and laughter, as inspired by the legendary musical catalog of The Beatles, will arrive in theaters on June 28, 2019.
