The first trailer for The Walking Dead’s fifth season is epic and brutal

Every year, THE WALKING DEAD premieres new footage at Comic Con and every year it feels epic. For some reason, after the cliffhanger ending to the fourth season, I was expecting a huge tease for the fifth season and boy does this trailer deliver. Full of incredible zombie make-up, tense situations with the Terminus group, and a final scene telling us what happened to Beth when she was abducted, this is the trailer that will convince any WALKING DEAD fans on the fence to come back into the fold.

AMC President Charlie Collier issued this statement about the upcoming season.

“From the opening tease in the premiere onward, season five is without question the most ambitious and satisfying season this amazing team has ever crafted. In the zombie apocalypse, event television is alive and well, and I am proud to acknowledge that this uniquely talented writing staff, production team and cast have once again raised the bar (and the crossbow).”

Without giving too much away, the trailer definitely shows some resolution as to characters we have become familiar with reuniting, specifically Rick and his infant daughter, Judith. But, the driving force still looks to be heading to Washington to cure the disease that caused the dead to rise. Fans of the comics know what lies ahead for these folks and showrunner Scott Gimple and producer/creator Robert Kirkman promise this season will share commonality with the comics while also changing the fates of some fan favorites.

THE WALKING DEAD returns to AMC on Sunday, October 12th.
