The Forever Purge first image, plot details revealed for final chapter

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

From the pages of the latest issue of Total Film magazine, the same issue that contains the Halloween Kills image we shared yesterday, comes the first image from The Forever Purge – the fifth and supposedly final entry in the Purge film franchise. This image can be seen below, and brings the familiar sight of people rioting in the streets.

Directed by Everardo Gout from a screenplay by franchise creator James DeMonaco (who has written every film in the series and directed the first three), The Forever Purge is set to reach theatres on July 9, 2021.

We had previously heard that this film would "take Purge out of its usual metropolitan setting", and now Total Film has confirmed that is the case. They have learned this sequel takes place

after the events of The Purge: Election Year (whereas The First Purge acted as a prequel to the 2013 original) and will centre on Adela (Ana de la Reguera) and Juan (Tenoch Huerta), who find solace at a Texan ranch, having fled a drug cartel in Mexico. Things go awry when a group of outsiders decide to keep purging beyond the allotted time when people can break any and all laws.

Ana de la Reguera and Tenoch Huerta are joined in the cast by Will Patton, Cassidy Freeman, and Leven Rambin.

Gout told Total Film this is

an amazing story of Latinos and Americans coming together to overcome despair and evil."

The director added that DeMonaco wants The Forever Purge to "set the record straight" on what he intended to accomplish with the Purge franchise.

‘I want my intentions to be crystal clear on what I think about violence and what’s going on in the world.’ That’s what he told me. It’s dystopian, but he’s trying to get us to look in the mirror. It makes you think, ‘Shit, if I get pushed into a corner, would I do the same?’ Once you open that door, how do you close it again?"

The Forever Purge was produced by DeMonaco, Sébastien K. Lemercier, Jason Blum, Michael Bay, Brad Fuller, and Andrew Form.
