At last blush, Aussie it-man Joel Edgerton’s name was in the running for 300: BATTLE OF ARTEMISIA. While that has quieted a bit, Warner Bros. may have just found their leading lady for the epic action sequel.
THR has it that British beauty Eva Green (pictured) is in talks to star as the titular Artemisia in Noam Murro’s film. If she accepts, Green would play a ruthless, gold-covered goddess who persuades Xerxes to amass his army and helps lead them into battle.
Now that’s just plain cruel. Green is already a goddess, now she gets the golden bedazzlement? Too fine, that girl is!
Artemisia is based on Frank Miller’s upcoming graphic novel that takes Xerxes, the Persian leader who is an antagonist in 300, and turns him into more of a pivotal figure. He’s a man in search of godhood after the death of his father, battling an Athenian warlord named Themistocles. The story takes place over the course of several years, but the focal point is the battle of Artemisium, which occured in 480 BC.
BATTLE OF ARTEMISIA looks to get production underway in the next few months.
