The Hangover director Todd Phillips does a John Belushi biopic

Considering his first big hit OLD SCHOOL was a spiritual cousin to ANIMAL HOUSE, director Todd Phillips would seem like a good match for a movie about hard-living funnyman John Belushi.

Warner Bros. has the late comedian’s life rights and has given writer Steven Conrad (THE PURSUIT OF HAPPYNESS) the assignment to bring the former SNL star and Blues Brother back to the screen in a new skin. Belushi’s widow Judith will also be an exec producer on the project.

Phillips’ HANGOVER and DUE DATE star Zack Galiafinakis is a bit too old for the part (Belushi died of an overdose at 33), but THR throws out a few names they think could handle the role, including Jonah Hill, Seth Rogen, Ethan Suplee and Tyler Labine. Although personally, I think a slightly slimmed-down Jorge Garcia (“Lost”) would be a perfect fit, dude.
