The Haunting of Bly Manor gets a new trailer ahead of October premiere

Last month, Netflix released a trailer for executive producer Mike Flanagan's upcoming series The Haunting of Bly Manor and announced that the show will be available to watch on the streaming service as of October 9th. With that date rapidly approaching, a new trailer has arrived online and can be seen above.

Despite indulging in the now-cliché trailer practice of setting the imagery to a slowed down version of a classic song (in this case, Motley Crue's "Home Sweet Home" is the one that has gotten the creepy trailer treatment), this trailer does make The Haunting of Bly Manor look like it's going to be a great show to binge your way through this Halloween season. I really enjoyed Flanagan's previous Netflix Haunting series, The Haunting of Hill House (pick up a copy HERE), so I'll be watching Bly Manor for sure.

Flanagan executive produced The Haunting of Bly Manor with Trevor Macy, through their company Intrepid Pictures. The show is based on the 1898 novella The Turn of the Screw by Henry James, and will also work in elements from, according to Flanagan, "a dozen" other James ghost stories, including The Jolly Corner, about a menacing doppelgänger, and The Romance of Certain Old Clothes, about two sisters and a mysterious chest of beloved dresses. Macy calls it a "literary remix".

Bly Manor is set in

1980s England. After an au pair’s tragic death, Henry Wingrave (Henry Thomas) hires a young American nanny (Victoria Pedretti) to care for his orphaned niece and nephew (Amelie Bea Smith, Benjamin Evan Ainsworth) who reside at Bly Manor.

They are joined there by the estate’s chef Owen (Rahul Kohli), groundskeeper Jamie (Amelia Eve), and housekeeper, Mrs. Grose (T’Nia Miller). But all is not as it seems at the manor, and centuries of dark secrets of love and loss are waiting to be unearthed in this gothic romance. At Bly Manor, dead doesn’t mean gone.

In addition to the actors mentioned in the synopsis, Kate Siegel, Oliver Jackson-Cohen, and Tahirah Sharif are also in the cast.
