Paramount has recently debuted the trailer for the psychological thriller, The Infernal Machine. The new film comes from writer and director Andrew Hunt. The movie stars Guy Pearce as an author named Bruce Cogburn, who had written a famous controversial book called The Infernal Machine. Cogburn is a recluse, but he has recently been receiving cryptic letters from an obsessed fan of his work.

Cogburn starts to see connections between the cryptic letters and a past incident where a mass shooter cited his book as an inspiration for his massacre. He starts to feel the walls closing in as he investigates why the shooter had been motivated by his words, and he suspects the writer of the letters might also be behind it. Cogburn is aided by a police officer responding to his complaints of being stalked.

The Infernal Machine is based on “The Hilly Earth Society” written by Louis Kornfield and was produced by Jonathan Mitchell for The Truth Podcast. This will be director Andrew Hunt’s second feature after 2016’s Miles Between Us and a 2015 TV series called Collaborate.

Along with Guy Pearce, The Infernal Machine will also star Alice Eve known from Star Trek Into Darkness, as Officer Higgins, Jeremy Davies, known for the recent Scott Derrickson film, The Black Phone, as Elijah Barrett, and Alex Pettyfer, known from I am Number Four, as Dwight Tufford, the character behind the mass shooting.

Pearce recently had appeared in the acclaimed HBO show Mare of Easttown with Kate Winslet, as well as the Liam Neeson thriller Memory and the sci-fi Zone 414.

The Infernal Machine will have a running time of 111 minutes and has been given an R rating for language and some violence.

The film is scheduled to come out in select theaters and streaming on September 23, 2022.
