The international trailer for the animated film Epic is, well, epic

As the ability for animators to harness CGI has increased, so has the scope of our feature length cartoons. Gone are the days where stories had to be scaled down. Now, the sky is the limit and we have had a solid couple of decades of animated films. Some even rival their live action counterparts. Blue Sky’s EPIC looks to continue that trend with a huge story scaled down to the tiniest of sizes.

This new international trailer for EPIC gives us a look at the detail in the animated world. Sure, we have had other animated movies in recent years that use the old shrunken protagonist plot device (ARTHUR AND THE INVISIBLES, THE SECRET WORLD OF ARRIETY), but EPIC looks like the only one that wants to make the tiny ant-sized world a massive scale adventure.

Tell me that trailer doesn’t look like a lot of fun? Here’s the official synopsis:

EPIC is a 3D CG action-adventure comedy that reveals a hidden world unlike any other. From the creators of ICE AGE and RIO, EPIC tells the story of an ongoing battle deep in the forest between the forces of good who keep the natural world alive and the forces of evil who wish to destroy it. When a teen age girl finds herself magically transported into this secret universe, she must band together with a rag-tag team of fun and whimsical characters in order to save their world… and ours.

Starring Amanda Seyfried, Colin Farrell, Christoph Waltz, Aziz Ansari, Josh Hutcherson, Jason Sudeikis, Pitbull, Steven Tyler, Blake Anderson, Judah Friedlander, and Beyoncé Knowles, EPIC has a heck of a lot of firepower behind it. I hope it succeeds. Studios are wary after RISE OF THE GUARDIANS fell flat at the box office, despite also telling a massive story with an all-star cast. Plus, any movie with Cristoph Waltz is automatically a must see for me.

EPIC opens everywhere on May 24, 2013
