I suppose this news would have been more apt to break on next week’s podcast…aren’t Eric and Ammon clocking CREATURE FROM THE BLACK LAGOON this week?

Anyway, THR has it that THE INVASION scribe Dave Kajganich has been hired by Universal to pen the remake of CREATURE FROM THE BLACK LAGOON. We haven’t heard a peep about the potential redo in exactly two years, hopefully this draft doesn’t languor in the development abyss for as long. No director has yet been assigned, despite previous rumors of Carl Rinsch (47 RONIN) landing the job.

With production from Eric Newman and Marc Abraham of Strike Entertainment, Gary Ross and Allison Thomas via their Larger Than Life Productions: CREATURE FROM THE BLACK LAGOON emerges when:

A scientific expedition searching for fossils along the Amazon River discover a prehistoric Gill-Man in the legendary Black Lagoon. The explorers capture the mysterious creature, but it breaks free. The Gill-Man returns to kidnap the lovely Kay, fiancée of one of the expedition, with whom it has fallen in love.

Pretty sweet sauce.  But not that’s not all for this Kajganich fella. Coming off THE INVASION, dude wrote a draft of the PET SEMETARY remake, not to mention adaptations of other Stephen King works, IT and THE STAND. Whether or not those particular scripts will get made, only time will tell.

INVASION’S Nic Kidman!
