The Shudder streaming service has announced that season 5 of The Last Drive-In with Joe Bob Briggs will begin airing on April 21st! Host / drive-in movie critic Joe Bob Briggs has confirmed the news, and tweeted the following:

April 21: Season 5 Launch Party!
April 28: Walpurgisnacht Part 2!
May 5: Cinco de F*cking Mayo!
May 12: Mama’s Day!
May 19: Dysfunctional Family Jubilee!
. . . and that’s only the beginning.

1428Elm reports that season 5 of The Last Drive-In with Joe Bob Briggs will be split into two blocks of five double feature episodes. As shown in Joe Bob’s tweet, the first five episodes will play out between April 21st and May 19th. There will then be a brief hiatus before the show returns in mid-June for another five double feature episode run. So this season will give us some Joe Bob to watch a little deeper into the year than usual – we just have to endure that one month hiatus along the way.

We don’t have an official synopsis for the new season yet, but season 4 of The Last Drive-in with Joe Bob Briggs had the following synopsis: The hit series returns with Briggs, the world’s foremost drive-in movie critic, presenting eclectic horror movie double features, interrupting the films to expound upon their merits, histories, and significance to genre cinema. The season premiere will feature a celebration of The Last Drive-In’s 100th movie since Joe Bob’s first Shudder marathon in 2018, with surprise special guests. Shudder and Briggs first teamed up in July 2018, for the 24-hour marathon intended to be Briggs’ final farewell to televised movie hosting. Due to overwhelming popular demand, Shudder brought The Last Drive-In back as a weekly series and for multiple holiday specials.

The show is produced by Matt Manjourides and Justin Martell, and directed by Austin Jennings. Joe Bob is joined on each episode by Darcy the Mail Girl (a.k.a. Diana Prince).
