The Lodger finds two

Here’s a remake that I doubt will raise the ire of the online community, although you never really know. It’s a Hitchcock film, but it’s from 1927 and it doesn’t feature a woman getting stabbed to death in the shower or a flock of malevolent birds pecking away at school-children – wow that guy made some twisted flicks!

The film in question is THE LODGER. The original Marie Belloc Lowndes novel was based on the real-life hysteria surrounding Jack the Ripper’s murderous spree in London – although director David Ondaatje’s remake is set in contemporary Los Angeles (because the only thing cooler than the foggy, cobblestone streets of London is L.A.!). The tale is broken into two converging plot lines: The first involves an uneasy relationship between a psychologically unstable landlady and her enigmatic lodger, and the second is about a troubled detective engaged in a cat-and-mouse game with an unknown killer.

Doc Ock himself Alfred Molina has just signed on to play the detective, while Hope Davis (below) will take on the role of the landlady. Shooting begins next month.
