The Longshots Trailer

It’s no secret that former Limp Bizkit frontman Fred Durst has had lofty ambitions of directing Hollywood features. He was long-ago attached to direct LORDS OF DOGTOWN, and already had several music video credits racked up, but when I imagined what a Fred Durst movie would look and feel like (which I did on a nightly basis), ‘inspirational sports story’ is not what came to mind. But with the release of the trailer for THE LONGSHOTS, that’s exactly what this is. The movie stars another former badass softened by Hollywood’s allure, Ice Cube, as a former football star who mentors his niece to become the first female to play football in the Pop Warner tournament. The film was written by the scripters who brought us AKEELAH AND THE BEE, and costars Akeelah herself, Keke Palmer. Essentially, this is AKEELAH AND THE PIGSKIN, and I’m not quite sure what Fred Durst is doing directing it.
