The Lost Boys TV show once again told to get lost, not picked up for series

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

The 1987 Joel Schumacher teen vampire flick THE LOST BOYS is actually a surprisingly influential film, being one of the first times that vampires were hip and cool, rather than a variation on the stuffy aristocratic stereotype in the Lugosi or Lee mold, or the monstrous ghouls of NOSFERATU or SALEM'S LOT. Instead, they were grungy, sexy punks who were stylish and had fun!

And while there was a direct-to-DVD sequel in 2008, the rumored reboot TV series at CW has had a rough go of it. There have been multiple false starts since 2016 (including a female-centric one called LOST GIRLS), and multiple completed pilots, but it looked like the newest pilot was going to finally go to series. Unfortunately, the pandemic shuttered production before the pilot could be completely finished, and the CW then decided to go with a reboot of KUNG-FU instead.

However series creator Mark Pedowitz (who also created VERONICA MARS) hasn't given up hope, saying:

LOST BOYS is a passion of mine personally…Once we get through this climate, we will make a determination on how best to proceed with Lost Boys. I’m hoping to keep it going.

Meanwhile, here's the proposed plot synopsis for the series:

When a mother and her Gen Z sons move to the seaside town where she grew up, they discover there’s a sinister reason the local cool kids sleep all day, party all night, never grow up and never get old. Family bonds are tested as the brothers find themselves on opposite sides of a mythological struggle. It’s based on the 1987 cult classic movie that revolutionized how we think about vampires.

So what do you guys think? Still interested in a LOST BOYS remake? Either way, sound off below!
