Although The Mandalorian and Grogu hasn’t exactly been blowing up the box office, Lucasfilm is hoping that fans will want to return to theaters to watch the film again with a director’s commentary from Jon Favreau. Good luck with that.
The Mandalorian and Grogu Commentary
Favreau has recorded an in-theater audio commentary for The Mandalorian and Grogu, which will be available on June 5 via the TheaterEars app.
To use it, simply download the TheaterEars app, purchase tickets to any showtime of the movie, open the app once you’re seated, and enjoy the director’s commentary synced to the movie on screen.
If this sounds familiar to you, it’s because TheaterEars did the same thing with Project Hail Mary several months ago.
What We Thought
As I mentioned above, the film hasn’t been the blockbuster Lucasfilm had hoped it would be. Since its release on May 22, the film has grossed $254.2 million worldwide. In its second weekend, the film dropped to third place behind Backrooms and Obsession, representing a 70% decline, the worst second weekend drop for a Star Wars movie.
The film has received mixed reviews, but our own Tyler Nichols had fun with it.
“It’s at the point where anything that’s not top-tier Star Wars is absolutely taken apart by people online,” he wrote. “While The Mandalorian and Grogu is far from a masterpiece, it’s still a fun Star Wars movie. The world feels fleshed out, and this is a classic adventure story. While I do wish some of the FX were better handled, I’ve always liked The Mandalorian and enjoyed seeing these characters in movie form. The action is thrilling, and it’s much more accessible than I expected. The Star Wars franchise would be better off if these non-galactic destroying stakes were used more often.” You can check out the rest of his review right here, and don’t forget to let us know what you thought of the film as well.
Would you go back to the theaters to watch The Mandalorian and Grogu with the new director’s commentary?
