Hey there, boils and ghouls (sorry, the Crypt-Keeper possessed me for a sec). I must say, THE MIST is absolutely, without a doubt, my most anticipated movie of the year. I know , I know, some will cry GRINDHOUSE, others will thrust forth SPIDER-MAN 3, and those are on the list for sure, but in terms of what flick I hope reaches its fullest potential, it has to be THE MIST. It’s my favorite Stephen King story, from the director of the finest King adaptation ever (Frank Darabont, THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION), and c’mon, its about a group of people held hostage in a supermarket by giant tentacles, spiders, flying monster-bugs, and other assorted beasties. If you don’t love that concept, then I prefer not to know you, sir.
Here we have our first glimpse as to what we can expect the film to look like, with Darabont as our guide. We weave through the supermarket a bit, and then get to see the first “earthquake,” which pretty much signals the beginning of the end for the hapless shoppers. What’s truly wonderful about this is that Darabont comes across as just a big ol’ fan himself, that luckily enough, got a chance to direct this thing.
Trust me folks, if this gets done right, it’s going to be an amazing, terrifying, thoroughly nightmarish experience. And isn’t that what life’s all about?
