The Monster Tale: Andy Serkis executive producing South Korean creature feature

Andy Serkis is executive producing the South Korean creature feature The Monster Tale for the Netflix streaming service

Best known for his motion-capture performances in the Lord of the Rings and Planet of the Apes franchises, Andy Serkis is a prolific character actor with over 100 screen acting credits to his name, a director (Venom: Let There Be Carnage), and a producer (the TV series The Bastard Son & The Devil Himself). Now Deadline has broken the news that Serkis’s production company Imaginarium Productions is joining forces with South Korea’s Climax Studio and the Netflix streaming service to bring us a creature feature called The Monster Tale!

Jason Kim (The Divine Fury) – a.k.a. Joo-hwan Kim – will be writing and directing The Monster Tale, which brings together a warring group of three infamous East Asian monsters, an unlikely team of enemies who must unite to defeat a menacing invasion by a monster from across the seas in Europe.

Serkis and Imaginarium Productions co-founder Jonathan Cavendish are executive producing The Monster Tale with Climax’s Seung-min Byun.

Cavendish provided the following statement: “Bringing brilliant, flawed and complex characters to the screen is at the heart of what we do at the Imaginarium and we cannot wait to work with Climax Studio and their talented team to develop this wild roller-coaster ride of a story – it’s going to be unlike anything you’ve seen before.

Kim said, “I want to provide the global audience with a new kind of entertainment through the fantasy action of monsters from the East and West.” In addition to The Divine Fury, Kim also directed the action comedy Midnight Runners.

And Byun added, “I look forward to working together with The Imaginarium on the global co-production of The Monster Tale. I think this is going to be one of the most interesting projects that we have ever worked on.

The Monster Tale sounds like a good time to me. The set-up of monsters teaming up to fight off another monster has provided some great entertainment in the past (in multiple entries in the Godzilla franchise, for example), so hopefully this will turn out to provide some great entertainment as well.
