Sony Pictures announced today that the adaption of part-one of Cassandra Clare’s bestselling fantasy-adventure novel series THE MORTAL INSTRUMENTS will be digitally re-mastered into the immersive IMAX format and released on IMAX screens across the country when the film comes out on August 21st.

What film doesn’t get the IMAX treatment nowadays, that’s what I want to know.

The synopsis:

Set in contemporary New York City, a seemingly ordinary teenager, Clary Fray (Lily Collins), discovers she is the descendant of a line of Shadowhunters, a secret cadre of young half-angel warriors locked in an ancient battle to protect our world from demons. After the disappearance of her mother (Lena Headey), Clary must join forces with a group of Shadowhunters, who introduce her to a dangerous alternate New York called Downworld, filled with demons, warlocks, vampires, werewolves and other deadly creatures. Based on the worldwide best-selling book series.

A Constantin Film International GmbH and Unique Features Inc. production,THE MORTAL INSTRUMENTS: CITY OF BONES was directed by Harald Zwart (The Karate Kid) and written by Jessica Postigo Paquette, who based the screenplay on Cassandra Clare’s novel. The film is produced by Robert Kulzer and Don Carmody, with Bob Shaye, Michael Lynne and Martin Moszkowicz serving as executive producers.
