The Nun 2: Anna Popplewell, Katelyn Rose Downey join Conjuring Universe sequel

Earlier this month, producer James Wan confirmed that a sequel to the Conjuring Universe entry The Nun (which you can get HERE) has finally gone into production, four years after the film earned $365 million at the global box office on a budget of $22 million. Now Deadline has broken the news that Anna Popplewell, who is best known for playing the role of Susan Pevensie in the Chronicles of Narnia franchise, and child actress Katelyn Rose Downey (Clean Sweep) have joined Storm Reid (Euphoria) and returning The Nun stars Taissa Farmiga and Bonnie Aarons in the cast of The Nun 2.

According to Deadline, Popplewell is taking on the role of Kate, “a school teacher at St. Mary’s School in France and a widowed, loving mother to 10-year-old Sophie”. They assume Downey will be playing Sophie.

The Nun 2 is being directed by Michael Chaves (The Curse of La LloronaThe Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It) from a screenplay by Akela Cooper (Malignant). The writing duo of Ian Goldberg and Richard Naing (The Autopsy of Jane Doe) also contributed to the script. The film has the following synopsis:

1956 – France. A priest is murdered. An evil is spreading. The sequel to the worldwide smash hit THE NUN follows SISTER IRENE as she once again comes face to face with the demonic force VALAK – THE DEMON NUN

James Wan and Peter Safran are producing The Nun 2 through their Atomic Monster and The Safran Company banners. Filming on the sequel is expected to last until sometime in December. It’s scheduled to reach theatres on September 8, 2023.
