Released five years, the Conjuring Universe entry The Nun (which you can get HERE) was rated R for terror, violence, and disturbing/bloody images. The Nun 2 is now heading toward a September 8th theatrical release – and it has earned an R rating from the Motion Picture Association ratings board for almost the same reasons The Nun got its R. The Nun 2 is rated R for violent content and some terror. So we’re just missing out on the disturbing/bloody images this time around.

The Nun 2 is directed by Michael Chaves (The Curse of La LloronaThe Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It) from a screenplay by Akela Cooper (Malignant) and the writing duo of Ian Goldberg and Richard Naing (The Autopsy of Jane Doe). The film has the following synopsis: 1956 – France. A priest is murdered. An evil is spreading. The sequel to the worldwide smash hit THE NUN follows SISTER IRENE as she once again comes face to face with the demonic force VALAK – THE DEMON NUN.

Bonnie Aarons is back in the role of the demon nun Valak and is joined in the cast by fellow returning The Nun stars Taissa Farmiga and Jonas Bloquet. New additions include Storm Reid (Euphoria), who plays a nun-in-training who joins Sister Irene on the mission to stop Valak; child actress Katelyn Rose Downey (Clean Sweep), and Anna Popplewell, who is best known for playing the role of Susan Pevensie in the Chronicles of Narnia franchise. Popplewell plays Kate, “a school teacher at St. Mary’s School in France and a widowed, loving mother to 10-year-old Sophie”. We assume Downey is playing Sophie.

James Wan and Peter Safran are producing The Nun 2 through their Atomic Monster and The Safran Company banners. Richard Brener, Dave Neustadter, Victoria Palmeri, Gary Dauberman, Michael Clear, Judson Scott, and Michael Polaire serve as executive producers.

I didn’t like The Nun very much, but I’ll be giving The Nun 2 a chance at some point.
