Netflix's The Old Guard was one of those films released during the heart of the pandemic that really hit with people that were embracing more offerings via streaming. The film was incredibly successful for Netflix and a sequel was soon announced after the film's release. Not much news about the sequel was revealed after that but the film's star, Charlize Theron, has revealed that the script is complete and they're ready to start filming in early 2022.

Theron confirmed major nows about the sequel to The Old Guard during a recent interview with "Variety." The actress revealed that the script is finished and filming is set to begin in early 2022. Theron was then asked if Marwan Kenzari and Luca Marinelli will be back as the film's same-sex couple, Joe and Nicky, to which the actress enthusiastically confirmed they will be returning. As of now, no other cast members are officially involved as of yet, but the hope is that Kiki Layne, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Matthias Schoenaerts, and Ngo Thanh Van will return with Gina Prince-Bythewood coming back to direct.

Based on the comics by Greg Rucka, The Old Guard starred Charlize Theron as Andy, a nearly immortal mercenary who helps protect humanity. The plan was always to give Theron a potential franchise at the streamer and when the film became one of Netflix's biggest hits, it was only a matter of time. The end of the film really set up where the sequel will go but I won't give any of that away just in case you haven't seen it.
