Netflix has released a teaser trailer for their Edgar Allan Poe serial killer thriller The Pale Blue Eye, starring Christian Bale.Netflix has released a teaser trailer for their Edgar Allan Poe serial killer thriller The Pale Blue Eye, starring Christian Bale.

Yesterday, we got our hands on a batch of first look images from Antlers director Scott Cooper‘s serial killer thriller The Pale Blue Eye, which includes legendary writer Edgar Allan Poe among its cast of characters. Now a teaser trailer for The Pale Blue Eye has arrived online to give us a glimpse of the film’s characters in action – and to offer a look at some nice cinematography. You can check it out in the embed above.

The Pale Blue Eye is set to receive a limited theatrical release on December 23rd, before moving to the Netflix streaming service on January 6th.

Based on a novel by Louis Bayard (pick up a copy HERE), The Pale Blue Eye will follow the attempt to solve a series of murders that took place in 1830 at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point. Christian Bale will play a veteran detective who investigates the murders, helped by a detail-oriented young cadet who will later become a world famous author, Edgar Allan Poe.

Harry Melling (The Queen’s Gambit) plays Poe. He and Bale are joined in the cast by Gillian Anderson (The X-Files), Toby Jones (First Cow), Lucy Boynton (Bohemian Rhapsody), Charlotte Gainsbourg (Antichrist), Harry Lawtey (Industry), Simon McBurney (Carnival Row), Timothy Spall (Mr. Turner), Hadley Robinson (Moxie), Joey Brooks (Molly’s Game), Brennan Keel Cook (Encounter), Gideon Glick (The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel), Fred Hechinger (The White Lotus), Matt Helm (The Tragedy of Macbeth), Steven Maier (The Plot Against America), Charlie Tahan (Ozark), and the great Robert Duvall (The Godfather).

Cooper and Bale produced The Pale Blue Eye with John Lesher and Tyler Thompson.

I was sold on this project as soon as it was announced and the teaser trailer doesn’t show a whole lot in its 59 seconds, so I can’t say it did much to increase my hype – but at least it confirms that this movie is one to look forward to.
