We told you about a little shark-attack called THE REEF way back in November (relive the memory HERE), and today we finally have an update for you: THE REEF is finally entering pre-production!
It took some time to set up, but the Mysterious Light & Prodigy Movies produced film is now entering the first stages of pre-production at Sydney’s Fox Studios, with a production start-date next month on location in Hervey Bay in Queenslan. Nice!
The cast includes Damian Walshe-Howling, Zoe Naylor, Gyton Grantley, Adrienne Pickering, and Kieran Darcy-Smith, and if you haven’t heard of any of those names before, don’t worry–you’re not alone! But I think that’s the angle/appeal they’re going for with this one, as this shark movie is going to feature nothing but real sharks! No CGI, no animatronics, just the real deal Holyfield of sharks. Wow. Now that’s hardcore!
If this has you sucked in (the whole ‘real sharks’ angle), then prepare for even more coolness. Starting November 5th, the film’s OFFICIAL SITE will be streaming behind the scenes footage from the set so you can watch all the action live as it happens. Truth be told, you’ll probably just see a bunch of folks standing around for hours on end, but when the cool shark stuff happens, I’m sure it’ll be worth the wait.
THE REEF goes like this: For three British backpackers it seemed like a dream come true. A Week cruising the world’s most beautiful coral reef on their own yacht. But when their boat capsizes leaving them stranded on an overturned hull the dream turns into a nightmare. What should they do? Stay with a damaged hull that could sink at any moment or try to swim for land! Finally deciding to swim the three friends take to the water. As they close in on land a fin surfaces and with it the realization that they are being stalked by a deadly fifteen foot white pointer shark. Will any of them make the swim or will the sea take what it wants? The Reef walks the line between horror and psychological thriller.
All with real sharks? They’re crazy, yo! And yet, I’m compelled to check it out. Stick around for more on THE REEF when production begins in South Australia next month!
