The Thing over Dead?

Last month we let you know that commerical director Matthijs Van Heijningen – already slated to direct the Zack Snyder-produced ARMY OF THE DEAD – signed on to direct Universal’s THE THING prequel. Pretty cool gigs for someone who has never directed a major motion picture before. But which of the two big-budget genre flicks will be going forward first?

Well Snyder pretty much set the record straight for Collider.com, saying that Van Heijningen is directing THE THING first, then “maybe when he’s done with that”, he’ll move on to ARMY OF THE DEAD. So it would appear that ARMY is definitely on the back-burner for right now.

In case you don’t recall, ARMY OF THE DEAD is an action thriller that takes place in zombie-infested Las Vegas and focuses on a father who tries to save his daughter from certain death in a zombie-ridden Sin City.

Since there’s about 872 different zombie movies in the works right now, maybe it’s not such a bad thing that one of the bigger ones takes a seat for a while. Then again, we’re on the verge of playing the genre out, so this flick may never get a chance to take off. I guess time will tell. In the meantime, get ready for THE THING to begin rolling in the near future.
