The Tomorrow War 2: Sequel talks begin with Pratt and McKay returning

After being watched by 2.41 million U.S. households during the 4-day holiday weekend, Skydance and Amazon Studios are in talks to develop a sequel to The Tomorrow War.

Per Deadline, it's to be expected that the whole creative team will return for the sequel. This includes director Chris McKay, screenwriter Zach Dean, and stars Chris Pratt, Yvonne Strahovski, Betty Gilpin, Sam Richardson, Edwin Hodge, and J.K. Simmons. Paramount is also a part of the conversation; the studio was originally going to release the first film in theaters before it sold to Amazon.

In The Tomorrow War, the world is stunned when a group of time travelers arrives from the year 2051 to deliver an urgent message: Thirty years in the future mankind is losing a global war against a deadly alien species. The only hope for survival is for soldiers and civilians from the present to be transported to the future and join the fight. Among those recruited is a high school teacher and family man Dan Forester (Chris Pratt). Determined to save the world for his young daughter, Dan teams up with a brilliant scientist (Yvonne Strahovski) and his estranged father (J.K. Simmons) in a desperate quest to rewrite the fate of the planet.

Wow! Talk about a quick turnaround, eh? I suppose it's best to strike while the iron is still piping hot, huh? I've yet to check this movie out, seeing as I was busy watching Fear Street Part One: 1994, which was awesome, by the way. That said, I'm definitely curious to see what all the hype is about.

Amazon purchased The Tomorrow War from Skydance for the tune of $200 million. While that's a hefty pricetag indeed, it's the price of doing business when you want to build your library of blockbuster films. After all, someone's got to keep streaming services like Netflix and Disney+ on their toes. A bit of healthy competition is great for the entertainment business, even if subscription fees to so many platforms put a strain on consumer wallets. Choose your entertainment platforms wisely, I suppose.
