The trailer for Stonehearst Asylum features Kate Beckinsale and plot twists

Nothing quite beats a good psychological horror story and if there is one author whose name is synonymous with the genre it is Edgar Allan Poe. We haven’t seen a good adaptation of a Poe work in a long time, but the trailer for STONEHEARST ASYLUM teases a scary good time. Director Brad Anderson is known for some atmospheric and chilling films like THE MACHINIST and SESSION 9 and this could be another winner.

Starring Kate Beckinsale, Ben Kingsley, Michael Caine, Brendan Gleeson, and Jim Sturgess, STONEHEARST ASYLUM (previously ELIZA GRAVES) looks like the kind of movie you would have seen a lot of in the 1970s starring Christopher Lee and Peter Cushing. The production values look solid and you really cannot argue with a cast like this.

A recent medical school grad who takes a position at a mental institution soon finds himself taken with one of his colleagues — though he has no initial idea of a recent, horrifying staffing change.

The trailer may give a bit too much away than it should, but there are likely at least two or three twists in this movie that should keep you on the edge of your seat. I really like movies where you don’t know who to trust, plus this one features The Mandarin and Alfred Pennyworth which is a face off I never knew I really wanted.

STONEHEARST ASYLUM opens on October 24, 2014.
