The Walking Dead has stories plotted for at least seven more seasons

Last year, AMC’s CEO made comments that they envisioned no end for THE WALKING DEAD and could see the series airing until 2022 and beyond. With the ability to add and kill off characters each season, the world of THE WALKING DEAD could regularly be restocked and recast. But, could the show sustain such a run from a writing standpoint?

Executive producer David Alpert took part in a Producer’s Guild of America panel and shared just how far the writers have major story benchmarks plotted to.

“I happen to love working from source material, specifically because we have a pretty good idea of what season 10 is gonna be. We know where season 11 and 12…we have benchmarks and milestones for those seasons if we’re lucky enough to get there.”

The recent finale of the fourth season may have introduced a group of cannibals reminiscent of a story arc in THE WALKING DEAD comic book that took place around the 60th issue. With the comic now approaching it’s 130th issue, there is still quite a bit of pre-existing material to base the series off of. The show has taken liberties with the story and moved in other direction’s than the comic, but if five season equals about 60 issues, reaching twelve seasons is not impossible. Plus, with the ratings as high as they are now, that is seeming more realistic than ever.

What do you think about seven or more seasons of THE WALKING DEAD?
