Lauren Cohan, who makes up one of the major starring roles in AMC’s “The Walking Dead”, has signed on to star in THE BOY, a horror thriller from Lakeshore Entertainment and Vertigo Entertainment, reports THR. Directed by THE DEVIL INSIDE’s William Brent Bell, THE BOY is aiming for a March start and was written by Stacey Menear.

I haven’t seen any of Cohan’s work outside of “The Walking Dead”, but she’s usually pretty great and I’m excited to see what she brings to this bizarre psychological slice of horror. Dolls are inherently creepy, with those lifeless eyes that always seem like they're watching you. They're a great tool for the genre when used right, especially in THE BOY's case in which a couple are treating a life-like doll as a real child. That's just wrong.

THE BOY centers on…

…a nanny, to be played by Cohan, who is tasked with overseeing an unnervingly life-like doll by a bizarre couple who treat the doll as a real child. The doll is being used by the couple as way to cope with the death of their young son but the nanny becomes increasingly convinces it is alive.

Producing are Lakeshore’s Gary Lucchesi and Tom Rosenberg, Vertigo’s Roy Lee and Adam Stone, along with Jim Wedaa.
