The Weinstein Company puts out a statement regarding the NC-17 rating for Blue Valentine

Not happy with the NC-17 rating that BLUE VALENTINE was given?

Neither was The Weinstein Company.

But why is the rating such a big deal? It might have something to do with the fact that it was given an NC-17 due to a little bit of pleasurable cunnilingus. Is muff diving so bad? I mean, I seriously doubt that they get all close up and give it the porno treatment.

Apparently the word spread fast and people were dumbfounded over the rating, so much so that The Weinstein Company decided to put out a statement regarding the issue.

Here’s the official statement:

“We want to express our deepest gratitude to our colleagues in the industry and in the media for their recent outpouring of support for Derek Cianfrance’s Blue Valentine after the film surprisingly received an NC-17 rating from the MPAA. We are taking every possible step to contest the MPAA’s decision. We respect the work of the MPAA and we hope, after having a chance to sit down with them, they will see that our appeal is reasonable, and the film, which is an honest and personal portrait of a relationship, would be significantly harmed by such a rating.” – Harvey Weinstein
