The people over at Hammer Films were the masters of horror back in the day, often working with Vincent Price, Peter Cushing, and Christopher Lee to produce a wide range of monster movies and an even wider range of sequels. And by “wide range” I mean seven FRANKENSTEIN and nine DRACULA movies between 1959 and 1974, with many more projects besides. After taking a break from making any movies at all for the 90s and early 2000s, the studio has risen again in recent years to produce THE RESIDENT and LET ME IN to mixed critical and commercial acclaim.
But I expect that’s all going to change with THE WOMAN IN BLACK, their next endeavor starring Daniel Radcliffe in his first post-Potter film role. Or at least the critical part, anyway. LET ME IN fell victim to being just too damn close to the original Swedish film, an already brilliant piece of work, but with THE WOMAN IN BLACK you have a script by Jane Goldman (STARDUST , KICK-ASS , X-MEN: FIRST CLASS ) based on the successful play/book of the same name and several extremely creepy trailers.
And now we have a new poster done up in the traditional Hammer style of old. And it’s fantastic. Not that recent posters were in any way bad, it’s just that the retro goodness which drips from this one makes it very very cool. THE WOMAN IN BLACK opens wide on February 3rd.
