Them damn Flies!

Flies. What could be scarier, right? Well, gnats I suppose, but flies are up there. Some Australian producers realize this and have begun to work on a 3D thriller called FLIES. That’s right, the brutal majesty of a fly, in shocking 3D!

Director Jamie Blanks (URBAN LEGEND, VALENTINE) is attached to the flick, which was written by Anthony Egan. Luckily, it seems as though this project’s tongue is pressed firmly against its cheek; the story is about genetically altered insects that escape a laboratory and attack a town about to open a tourist attraction in the shape of a giant blowfly.

The only question raised is, why the hell are they genetically altering flies? Has Seth Brundle taught us nothing?!

Writer Egan said: “It was a concept we thought that no one has really touched on the subject of ‘nature goes nuts’ in Australia… So we thought up an idea that would fit that genre and have appeal in the national marketplace.”

Production is expected to get underway the first quarter of ’09. To read more on FLIES (the movie, not the terrifying creature) click HERE.
