Jason Reitman may have outdone himself with his next effort, LABOR DAY. The tone and subject matter are certainly a different direction for Reitman who adapted the screenplay from author Joyce Maynard’s coming of age story. What you might think is a tale of a Mother and Son being held against their will by their captor, is actually something more than it seems.

Synopsis:
LABOR DAY centers on 13-year-old Henry Wheeler, who struggles to be the man of his house and care for his reclusive mother Adele while confronting all the pangs of adolescence. On a back-to-school shopping trip, Henry and his mother encounter Frank Chambers, a man both intimidating and clearly in need of help, who convinces them to take him into their home and later is revealed to be an escaped convict. The events of this long Labor Day weekend will shape them for the rest of their lives.
The look of the trailer is fantastic along with the choice of song. I’ve seen several glowing reviews of the film, and a couple on the mediocre side. Everything that Jason Reitman has directed up until now has been an enjoyable experience for me. Even though YOUNG ADULT was not well received, I actually ended up liking it as well as the performances from Charlize Theron and Patton Oswalt. Keep an eye out for a quick flash of James Van Der Beek as a cop, and an ear open for the narration of Clark Gregg.
LABOR DAY hits theaters in limited release on December 25, 2013.
