Director Joe Begos is currently in production on one of my most highly anticipated upcoming films, the "Vietnam vets vs. punk mutants" film V.F.W., but while that one is filming another Begos movie is set to make its world premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival.

Scheduled to have its first screening at 9:45pm on Saturday, April 27th (with more screenings to follow on April 28th and May 1st) is BLISS.

Written and directed by Begos, BLISS is set in Los Angeles but is said to be an homage to "grungy New York horror like William Lustig's MANIAC and Abel Ferrara's THE DRILLER KILLER". The synopsis:

Known for her dark and macabre artwork, painter Dezzy Donahue is in a professional rut. Unable to finish her newest commissioned work, Dezzy looks to reignite her creative juices by letting loose — as in, taking every drug in sight and tearing through raucous house parties and heavy metal bars. After a few nights spent with her debauchery-loving friends Courtney and Ronnie, though, Dezzy notices changes within herself. On the positive side, she’s finally painting again, but she’s also developing a strange desire for blood. As someone who has never been able to control her vices in the first place, Dezzy is quickly and violently consumed by this bloodlust.

The film stars Dora Madison, Tru Collins, Rhys Wakefield, Jeremy Gardner, Graham Skipper, and George Wendt.

The trailer, which can be seen below, is pretty cool, featuring an appealing mixture of colorful lighting and copious bloodshed. The fact that George Wendt is in the cast (he's also working with Begos on V.F.W.) makes the movie even more interesting to me.
